Val D'Isere gets one award hands
down from StepOn, and that is "most stuck
up resort in France". Yes this is the place
where unless you turn up in your Ferrari you
ain't gonna get much respect...On the other
hand, the town happens to lie next to some of
the best snowboarding terrain in Europe and
has a great snow record. Also, being linked
with Tignes makes this one of the largest ski
areas in Europe.
Val D'Isere has it's own snowpark underneath
the Mont Blanc lift which has a good range of
kickers, table-tops, and a few rails. However
at busy times during the season the park often
gets really over-crowded so beware of nu-skool
skiers!
You've also got access to the park in Tignes
which is generally less crowded and is located
on the Palafour Combe. The park and pipe are
serviced regularly and also have their own drag-lift.
Tignes' halfpipe is definetely one of the better
pipes in France.
If the parks are busy, just go ride the natural
terrain, cos there's plenty of good kicker locations,
natural rollers, cliff drops, etc scattered
all over the place. Just go exploring and see
what you find.
The town itself is pretty big compared to most
French resorts, and despite being over-run with
English wankers it still has a traditional French
appearance. The main problem is the expense,
not recommended if you're on a budget!
Overall a good resort if you can afford it!
If you're on a budget our recommendation would
be to stay in Tignes and then check Val D'Isere
by riding over into the area.
