Mammoth Mountain, California USA

Lying in the far north of the state of California, in the Sierra Nevada (not to be confused with southern Spain!) mountain range, Mammoth mountain is an area renowned for awesome runs for snowboarding (in the winter) and mountain biking (in the summer).
Some would say it's the best all round resort in the world, with a huge ski area, state of the art lift system, and one of the best snowparks ever built. Mammoth mountain resort is one case where you should believe the hype, every word of it.

With a huge annual snowfall, Mammoth is a freeriders dream, with every kind of terrain - bowls, chutes, cliffs, tree runs. The Panorama gondola provides access to one of the most popular freeriding faces. There are a number of routes from the top but be sure to get there early cos it gets tracked out by late morning and is no way near as fun. From the top of the gondola you can also drop into the Dragons back which has a couple of big drops, cornices, etc. This area of the mountain is probably the most challenging terrain in the resort.

For freestyle, there's loads of places to build kickers or shape quarters all over the resort. Just go exploring and see what you find! For guaranteed jumps, Mammoth has a couple of parks which should not be missed. The superpark is at Main Lodge, which is the park you will have seen in plenty of snowboard vids, with the likes of Kevin Jones often making an appearance at the numerous demos and comps they have here. The park consists of some big table tops, kinked rails, hips, and quarters. The park is huge. There are also two superpipes which are maintained to the highest standard. A chairlift serves the whole park area exclusively. Although the jumps are aimed and pros and therefore pretty massive, some of the table top jumps are quite easy to get to grips with, you've just got to take loads of speed to clear the flat.

The South Park snowpark is aimed for intermediate riders and is less intimidating to ride. It is a long park which cuts and winds through the forest, real nice to ride.

Mammoth is about 4 hours drive north of L.A, the closest airport is Reno. The highway allows for an easy and direct journey to the resort.
