Courchevel forms part
of the Three Valleys ski area. The resorts of
Meribel and the highest resort in France, Val
Thorens, are not far away and the combined area
is huge..
I've been to Courchevel on three occasions with
my parents and family. I think that says it
all. It's quite a family resort and if you've
ridden in Verbier or Chamonix you'll be amazed
by just how flat and easy it seems. This is
deceptive as there are some brilliant off piste
runs coming down right from the top lift behind
Verdun and some nice ones on the way over to
1650 from 1850. The pistes are quite cool too
with a bit of everything from tree runs to big
wide open ones to blast down. I've always had
fun in Courchevel because the riding is laid
back and it's a good place to work on your tricks.
The resort is split up into three main levels
- 1550, 1650 and 1850 - with 1850 being the
hub of the action although you pay for it through
your nose. I like 1650 best as it's more chilled
but gets just as messy. Try the Bubble Bar or
there's some place that I'm sure has the word
Rock in its name but for obvious and shameful
reasons I can't remember exactly what.
The closest airport or train link is Grenoble,
which is under two hours drive from Courchevel.
