Event: ASJ Slopestyle finals
Location: Timberline Resort, MT Hood OR
For the third day in a row, bright summer sunny
skies greeted the competitors and spectators for
the slopstyle contest, the final event of this year’s
ASJ. All the riders and spectators were waiting
to see who would drive away with the Volvo and ride
away on the Harleys – the two big prizes for
overall performance and style at the event. At the
end of the day Elena Hight took the keys to the
Volvo for the best overall performance at the event.
Danny Kass and Jamie Anderson rode away with the
Harley-Davidson Most Inspired Rider Award.
The slopestyle course for the event was a great
representation of a typical snowboard park. The
course started with a rail park that led into a
triple jump line and ended with a short halfpipe
into a quarterpipe. The rail park at the start had
many options and led to creative lines. The first
was shaped like a church steeple and was dubbed
‘the church rail’ by Pat Bridges, editor
of Snowboarder Magazine. Riders were able to air
up and use it as a traditional box or hit it from
either side like a wall ride. After the church box
there were c-boxes on the left and right. The last
rail features had a choice between rainbow box,
an up-gap-down box and an up-flat-down box. The
course rewarded the riders with the best overall
riding skills.
Overall, the level of riding was super high with
riders only making small mistakes on one of the
obstacles or sections of the course. Many riders
with insane runs didn’t even make it to the
podium because the competition was so tight. The
ladies dropped first for an hour jam session. Here
are highlights from the top ranking women’s
runs.

The men dropped after the ladies for a two-hour
jam session. Like the pipe contest, the battle for
the top spot was a two-man slug fest. Jussi and
Andreas Wiig were in the classic battle of 9s and
1080s. Jussi prevailed in the end with solid top
to bottom runs, out-riding Andreas on the rail section
of the course. Danny Davis took second on his final
run by putting it all together in the nick of time.
Danny Kass, who was on fire all week on the hill
