step-on issue 32
My carbon footprint is 15,831.
That is probably about the same as the number of cups of tea I have drunk in my life, and about as useful to know. What exactly that figure of 15,831 tells me, I don't have a clue, it's just fashionable to know it at the moment.
While politicians and environmentalists argue over climate change, one thing is for sure, it hasn't snowed much this winter, but does the modern day snowboarder actually care? Most of the high profile snowboard contests take place at inner city locations, with jumps made from scaffolding and fake snow. The bulk of photos in magazines and video footage on snowboard videos is riders hitting rails, sometimes even going to the lengths of removing the snow from around the rail. Is 'no snow' really the future of snowboarding? It really has gone a bit insane...
One rider you can guarantee doesn't feel that way is the subject of our main interview this issue, French rider Douds Charlet. On this months tour we also hooked up with British photographer James Bryant, as well as stopping off in the Spanish Pyrenees and Avoriaz. For those of you sick of worrying when the next snow will fall, chill out with our latest photos from the Southern Hemisphere, where snow could not have been further from the minds of skaters at this years Bowlarama at Bondi Beach. Enjoy it while it lasts...

douds charlet
Back in 1999 when we did our first season in Chamonix, this 16 year old kid was ripping up Le Tour on a daily basis. Six years on, Douds Charlet is established at one of France's top snowboarders, but at the moment he's focused on something else closer to home and heart...

cerler
With such a bad season for snow this winter, it's worth looking off the beaten track when thinking of a place to hit up snowboarding. The Spanish Pyrenees certainly isn't the first place most of us would think of, but it really is a gem of an area, and the recent improvements to the ski areas make the resorts here well worth checking out. We were in Cerler in January to see for ourselves...

pro freestyle photos
The O'Neill Pro Freestyle touched down in Avoriaz once again this January, attracting riders from all around the world to compete in quarterpipe and the newly introduced rail contest right in the centre of the resort. Their was a great chilled out vibe as seasonaires and tourists enjoyed cups of hot wine to music whilst watching a fine display of aerial trickery high above them...

don't attack iran
With the appalling situation in Iraq far from over, America is turning it's attention to it's next target - Iran, feeding us the same story about nuclear weapons. I don't know about you, but for me this story is wearing a little thin. If the US really does intend to invade Iran, they could at least do us the courtesy of thinking up a new rhetoric.

We hook up with UK based snowboard photographer James Bryant to find out more about his latest work...

jakarta floods report
On the surface, a city like Jakarta would appear almost completely westernised, with large shopping malls hosting Gucci and Diors, Starbucks or Mcdonalds on every corner. It takes a natural disaster such as the floods witnessed recently or the earthquakes and tsnumis that plague the area to remind everyone that this really is a third world country. We have this special photo report on the January flooding...

jakarta city check

Indonesia has long been a popular destination for Western surfers migrating in winter, hunting the best waves in the world. If you are flying into Indo, chances are you'll be spending at least a couple of nights in Jakarta. We've got it checked...

When
talking about snow design and snow architecture, the first thing we think about is the dudes at our ski resort making and designing the snow park. But there are also some people that make whole 3 story houses, castles and hotels out of snow and ice.

No, we're not talking about some Eskimos in Greenland making small ice igloos for fun...
