No. 1 : The Mullet
The
number one slot in this top ten could go to no other style. The
term mullet was first used by Mike D from the Beastie Boys in his
sound 'Mullet Head' way back in the 80s, and since then the word
has stuck to describe a haircut that is short on the top and long
at the back. The mullet can be seen everywhere throughout history.
Over the past year it has crept back into fashion magazines and
has made a full return into the public eye, however in my opinion
the mullet has always been the king of hairstyles. Main users are
rockstars and most Italians and South Americans, and of course I
myself have had a mullet for around 5 years now!

No. 2 : The Afro
The Afro cannot be beaten for all out style. It came into it's prime
in the 60s as soul music rocked across America - the likes of Sly
and the Family Stone bringing the afro into the mainstream. The bigger
the better.
Famous afros throughout history are Michael Jackson, John Shaft ,
and that guy off The Bill. |

3 : The Skinhead
The
skinhead first entered the mainstream in football grounds in the 1980s,
and has since become a very acceptable hairstyle the world over. The
main advantages of the skinhead are low cost, ease of construction,
and low maintenance. It is a popular style amongst snowboarder seasonaires
due to these reasons, and the fact that it goes well with a beanie.
Main users are soldiers, Liverpudlians, and Nazis. |

No. 4 : The comb-over
Used
mainly by teachers, the comb-over is a very useful hairstyle for aging
men, allowing them to cover up their baldness rather effectively.
Men with a comb-over will usually carry a comb at all times to allow
for adjustments. The main problem with this hairstyle is wind and
bending over, as these two things will cause the comb-over to flop,
exposing red shiny head. |

No. 5 : The Perm
The
perm came into it's prime in the late 70s, mainly amongst females,
but could also be seen on many males too. Not only does the perming
process damage hair, it also looks completely shit. However despite
this, the perm has managed to stay in the mainstream and is a popular
choice of the Royal family, grannies, and golf professionals. |

No. 6 : The Step
The
Step was the classic choice for 11 year olds of the early 90s and
would usually be constructed using centre parting curtains with a
slight undercut. Known in some parts of Northern Britain as the Wedge,
the Step/Wedge creates and very noticeable mushroom head effect which
was for some strange reason considered really cool. Nowadays we realise
it looked gay. |

No. 7 : 'The Aniston'
Yes, she may be an annoying bitch but she
did manage to spark off a huge trend amongst women the world over
who all wanted to be her. Few girls managed to pull off the look quite
as well as Jennifer Aniston but the hairstyle did seem to transform
average looking girls into pretty fit chicks so it has to be good! |

No. 8 : The Mohawk
Although
a destinctive and briefly popular style, few people can pull off the
mohawk without looking like a complete dick. There can be several
variations to the mohawk but the traditional long haired mohawk is
without doubt the best way to wear this style, combining it with a
mullet. |

No. 9 : The Quiff
Another hairstyle that never looked good
in the first place (other than perhaps on Elvis), yet one that was
hugely popular. Why oh why?!?
Main abusers of the quiff were young teachers (my tutor included!
Mr. Kirkham - that quiff was simply too large for your own good,
you deserved to be knocked over my me and Dean and we didn't deserve
to go to the headmaster!).
...And of course the gayest way to wear your quiff was to dye the
quiff a different colour to the rest of your hair. Pure shit.

No. 10 : The Punk Rocker
A style seen in the early 80s and
not much since, the punk rocker cut showed that you didn't give a
fuck about Thatcher, and that you were rebelling against the fascist
bully boys.
Ideally as many colour combinations as possible, and as high as possible,
the punk rocker cut would usually be worn along with a leather jacket
and tight jeans. Most people who donned this style are probably in
very respectable jobs by now...seems being a rebel went out of fashion. |
